As a Company we have had a long association with the Putaruru Tim
ber Museum with various projects.
In November 2006 the 1942 GMC truck was brought to our workshop to be restored to it's original condition.
The history of this truck to the best of our knowledge is:
-
1942 -1945 - New Zealand Army
-
Sold off after the war in surplus auctions
-
Several were bought by operators in the area, including Uden Brothers
-
Last working job was Evergreen Spray Services, Rotorua
-
It was sponsored to the Museum by Ron Sycamore and Brian Clarke
-
Trailer was made from a GMC bogey with extra spring leaves fitted
Summary of the work carried out:
-
To make the truck roadworthy and to preserve for the future
-
Repair all brakes
-
Remove rust and repaint cab and chassis
-
Mechanical repairs and Paintwork donated by Forest Freighters Parts & Services Ltd
-
Tyres were donated by Alistair Sutton of Oropi
The GMC truck has since been a regular entrant in the town's Christmas Parade, and is on permanent display at the
Putaruru Timber Museum.
We would like to thank Greg Sheehan of Sheehan's Transport Assistance for donating to us a GMC Manual which will help us with further restoration projects.
